EHF HEAD COACHES
2008 TIER 1
Chris Beaudoin is currently the head coach of the USPHL Springfield Pics Jr Elite team of the USPHL Elite division. Chris spent 2019-2020 as the Head Coach of the Connecticut Nighthawks with the USPHL Premier team. Prior to his Junior coaching Chris spent 4 seasons as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator with the Western New England University men’s ice hockey program in from 2014-2018 after serving as a volunteer role at Fermi/Enfield High School in Enfield, Conn.
While working with WNE, Chris worked with both the forwards and the defensemen helping them develop as players and citizens off the ice.
We feel very fortunate to get a caliber of coach like Chris in our organization and believe Chris will help this players develop greatly.
As an organization we look forward to years of success working with Chris.
An NHL draft pick of the St. Louis Blues, Bob played his college hockey at Boston University where he amassed 140 points over four seasons and won the 1995 NCAA National Championship. He represented the USA at the 1994 World Junior Championships held in the Czech Republic. Bob continued on to a 440 game professional career with stops in the AHL, IHL, Italy, Switzerland, and Germany. Bob has been a part of hockey around the world and the MASSCONN family is lucky to have his experience and pedigree behind the bench.
2009 TIER 1
Nick has been our 2009 Tier I coach for the previous 4 seasons. He is loved by his players and brings a contagious energy to the rink every day. Prior to joining MASSCONN, Nick had been coaching in the youth ranks since 2004.
Nick has also coached High School Hockey for 8 years with stops at Rocky Hill and also Farmington High. Nick played junior hockey for the New England Sharks before moving on to Nichols College. He is an absolute pleasure to have in our organization and we look for bigger and better things next season for this very competitive team that Nick has built.
A defenseman during his playing career, Armand played two seasons at UMass Amherst where he scored 28 points in 39 games. He finished his college career at Plattsburgh where he helped the team to a SUNYAC Championship and an NCAA tournament appearance in 1997. Armand played one season of professional hockey in the CHL, before starting his coaching career the following season at Fredonia State University. We are lucky to have Armand as he brings experience and a special passion for teaching to the rink everyday.
2010 TIER 1
Rob joins us for his first year with the organization. He grew up in Plymouth, MA as a three sport athlete. After high school he joined the military where he spent the following 30 years. He played hockey for the United States Marine Corps for 4 years and the Massachusetts Army National Guard for 25 years. His youth coaching career began in 2015 and he has coached every age group from Novice to Midgets. In 2019 he was hired as the first Head Coach of Worcester Polytechnic Institute Women’s Hockey team. Rob currently holds a Level 5 USA Hockey certification. Rob believes in the culture of MASSCONN and we are extremely lucky to have his passion and experience in the organization.
Coach Humiston enters his first season as Head Coach of our 2011 Elite team. David has been an assistant coach in the organization since 2019. Aside from coaching at MASSCONN, Dave is currently the Assistant Coach at South Windsor High School, a role he has been in for 18 years. In 2017 season Coach Humiston was awarded the Connecticut High School Association Assistant Coach of the Year for Ice Hockey Award. He started his coaching career at Suffield High School as an assistant for two years. In 2000 he was named Head Coach, leading the team to a state championship that season.
Coach Humiston is also the Athletic Director at Bolton High School. Dave brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of the game to our organization, and we are lucky to have him.
2011 TIER 1
2021-2022 will be Joel's first season behind the bench with MASSCONN as a Head Coach. Joel grew up playing hockey in Enfield and has given back as a coach at every chance he has been given. Joel comes form a long line of hockey players and is surrounded by a family that grew up in this great game. Joel has shown that he has the passion, desire, and heart to take this team from where it is today and bring it to an even better place by the end of the season. He is a coach that challenges his players but rewards them at every chance he gets. He has a passion for this game that just can't be duplicated and he loves seeing his team succeed. We are lucky to have and Joel passion for coaching and teaching in our organization. We are expecting great things from him and look forward to seeing all the success this team will have.
Joey enters his second season as the 2012 Elite Coach. A native of Montreal, QC, Joey played his college hockey at Colgate University. He went on to play a 671 career professional games in both the NHL and the AHL. Joey started his coaching career as an assistant coach at NCAA Division 1 Mercyhurst. He coached in the AHL for two seasons in the Hartford Wolf Pack. We are are extremely lucky to have his playing experience and high level coaching pedigree behind our bench.
2012 TIER 1
Steve started playing youth hockey at the early age of 4 and he quickly fell in love with the sport. He was a standout High School hockey player and leader which earned him a "C" on his sweater.
He started his coaching career in 2004 and has not looked back since. Steve understands the dynamics that connect both sports and personal development. He is a big believer that life lessons are often more important that the results in games. He understands the commitment that comes with working hard to play at an elite level and he is a believer that hard work and commitment pay off.
He has coached at both the youth levels and High School levels for many years. His experience at the High School level for 8 years as an assistant really help develop his coaching philosophies. These 8 years taught him how important having the passion for the game is and how important life lessons are.
He and his wife Bonnie have 3 kids and of those kids 2 play hockey now. He is very much looking forward to a great year coaching at the youth level and helping his kids develop into next level players.
Dan joins MASSCONN for his first season with the organization as our 2013 Elite Head Coach. Originally from Thetford Mines, Quebec, he has been around hockey his entire life. A goaltender in his playing days, Dan played junior and collegiately in Canada. For the past few seasons he has overseen the Mite Program in South Windsor doing an impressive job developing his players. We are lucky to have Dan's passion for the game along with his energy, knowledge, and communication as a part of the organization.
2013 TIER 1
Tom joins MASSCONN for a 4th year but 1st year as the Head Coach of the 2013 Tier I Team. He grew up in Rocky Hill with his brother and fellow MASSCONN coach Nick May. Tom played his youth hockey at Central CT Youth Hockey Association and his Juniors for New England Sharks under Chris Keeney. He started his coaching career in Youth Hockey in 2004 and really has not looked back since then as its his true passion. Tom has been instrumental in helping to get the LTS and MDP programs to the current levels they are at.
We feel very fortunate to have Tom in our organization as he has a passion for the game that is second to none and really loves helping the kids to develop. Tom looks forward to an exciting year behind the bench and he can't wait to see how this team develops.
Keith takes the helm of the 2014 team this year and he is excited to start to mold this team together. Keith grew up playing Junior Hockey in this very organization under Gary Dineen in 1999 where they won an EJHL championship. He then went on to play 4 years of college hockey at Westfield State.
Keith loves the game and is around it daily, as he and his partner Dan, own and operate DK's. Keith has helped develop our young players and build our mite program from within, helping coach the MDP the past 3 seasons. Keith has strong ties to the organization and will be instrumental in the growth of our 2014s. We are extremely excited to see where Keith takes this 2014 team.
Paul Dowe and Paul Thompson
Paul Dowe will be in his second year leading the Futures Team. He has worked hard at developing our younger kids and is dedicated to ensuring they have a great experience and learn to love the game. After an impressive four year career at Plattsburgh where he won a NCAA Division III National Championship, Paul started his coaching career at Tri-Town High School. In his thirteen years at the school he grew the program from a Division III school to a yearly contender at the Division I level in Northern CT. He is a big believer that each one of our young players need to develop their skills in a certain order; skating, puck handling, passing and shooting.
Paul Thompson is currently in his 10th season of professional hockey playing with the Hartford Wolfpack. Paul has played over 600 professional games in both the NHL and AHL. He captained the Springfield Thunderbirds for three seasons. Paul found his passion for coaching youth hockey at his hockey camp which runs annually. He has been a part of developing our young players helping with the MDP.
NEGHL HEAD COACHES
Director of girls hockey
Melissa is currently the Head Coach of Longmeadow High School's Varsity team, and has been in that role since 2017. She was born in Springfield and played prep school hockey at Loomis Chaffee. She went on to play college hockey at Williams College. MASSCONN is lucky to have Melissa's passion, experience, and knowledge leading the way for our Girls Program.
John grew up playing in the Enfield Hockey Association through Midgets. He then went on to play college hockey at Western New England College.
Coach Birmingham has been coaching for 13 years. He has coached Learn to Skate, Mites, Squirts, and Peewee’s all with EHA. He has won state championships at the Squirt and Peewee level.
He has been a vital part of our Girls Program for some time now and has done a tremendous job in helping us build a very strong competitive Girls program. He has coached at the U12, U14, and U16 T1 Tier Levels.
U14 TIER I
Chris has been instrumental in the development of young hockey players as a coach since 1995. His coaching experience began under the leadership of Lincoln Flagg and Gary Dineen. Chris played junior hockey for Gary Dineen as well as for Cathedral High School where he was awarded the Eddie Shore award – given to the best defenseman in Western Mass High School hockey. Chris played collegiate hockey for Fairfield University.
He has coached boys’, co-ed and girls’ teams from mites through midgets. Former players have gone on to achieve success at the high school, prep school, junior, college and professional (including the National Hockey League) level. Chris focuses on a long-term developmental approach with a positive perspective. We are appreciative to his wife, Kellye, and his family for their support in his efforts to be a positive role model and influence on his players in their development both on and off the ice.
U16 TIER II
Fred is a staple within the Enfield Twin rinks as he both refs games and has been a coach for years in this area. He grew up coaching within Enfield Youth Hockey Organization at almost every level. He has coached with The CT Clippers and Enfield High School.
Fred has been a coach in our organization since 2013. We are extremely lucky to have Freddy on our staff as he bring a passion for the game that is second to none.
Greg joins MASSCONN as Head Coach of our U12 team, he previously coached in the organization at the 2011 level. He played high school hockey at Enfield High under Chris Keeney. Greg went on to play at Central CT State University for 4 seasons. Greg's experience and excitment for the game will be a vital part of our programs success.
Paul Dowe will take the lead as Head Coach of our U10 team. He has worked hard at developing our younger players for the past two seasons at the MDP and Futures level. He is dedicated to ensuring they have a great experience and learn to love the game.
